  • Use these to improve your email marketing

    I spent most of the day creating new automations.

    As I mentioned in a previous email. I moved over to Kit from ActiveCampaign.

    Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to import the automation I created.

    This means I’m having to recreate these from scratch.

    Though I must admit it’s been a lot easier than I thought it would be. Most likely due to my keeping a backup of all the emails I created and sent out.

    Another thing that’s helped with the migration to Kit is that I’ve used tags for my subscriber actions.

    That means in Kit I can then look at my subscribers and see anyone who’s bought. What that product is, how many products they’ve bought, along with any bump offers or upsells.

    And what action they’ve taken.

    If you’re not already using tags in your autoresponder, I recommend you think about doing so.

    The hardest part for me was knowing how to use the tags.
    I initially created a few tags for testing and made a complete mess.

    (I’d forget what the tag was for after I created it. Lol)

    If someone had bought a product that I’d promoted as an affiliate, I had to then figure out what they bought.

    To help me with remembering and creating these tags, I created a spreadsheet. I’d recorded the product owner along with the product name and tag to add to my autoresponder.

    Using tags means you don’t need to create a dozen different lists for different products. Helping you in segmenting your list.

    You can apply tags automatically when a link is clicked in your emails which could trigger an automation.

    Which is a great way to build up information on what your subscribers respond to.

    If you’re not building an email list – You really should be.

  • 4 ways to find affiliate products to promote

    I don’t tend to do a lot of affiliate marketing at the moment.

    And when I do, I like to either buy the product or if a review copy is available, grab that.

    When I do promote a product, I tend to go with something that I use, such as a tool, service, etc.

    If you’re looking for a product to promote, then the following four ways to find potential affiliate products may help.

    1. Products and Services. This is a great place to start since you’re already using the product or service, then recommending this to your audience would be a great place to start.

    Look at what coaching services, tools, membership sites, etc., you’ve used and found useful and could recommend to your audience.

    2. Affiliate Networks and Course Platforms. In addition to the obvious WarriorPlus and ClickBank, a Google search for “top affiliate networks” will reveal a good few others. Course platforms like Udemy and Skillshare.com also have affiliate programs. Though they don’t pay much, they do offer a variety of courses.

    One I came across and is good for internet marketing is Nanacast.com. You’ll have to scroll to the bottom of the page (to the footer) to find the link to sign up as an affiliate, I found a few of the older marketers on here!

    3. Private Affiliate Programs. Many product creators don’t list their products on affiliate networks. They use something like ThriveCart or similar which gives them more control over their affiliate program.

    You’ll have to do a little research. But places like Reddit have Subreddits like r/AffiliateMarketing or niche-specific subreddits. Often share affiliate opportunities.

    There are also forums such as the Warrior forum and other digital marketing forums. Again, a search on Google for “top digital marketing forums” will bring up a few to check out.

    4. Recommendations from Other Marketers. Sign up to other marketers’ lists and see what they’re promoting. This is a great way to find affiliate products to promote. Doing a Google search on your niche such as “internet marketing summit” will bring up a mix of summits, conferences and events.

    And the last thing to check is website recommendations.

    Check the top websites in your niche to see what they’re recommending.

  • Locked out of the laptop

    Yesterday my granddaughter decided to pop around.

    She’d been trying to sort her brother’s Windows 11 laptop out in the week, and since her brother no longer uses it, she wanted to borrow his laptop.

    (He now uses a desktop computer to play his games on.)

    I originally set up the laptops for them and created the Microsoft accounts.

    And for some reason, the pin I set up no longer worked for her brother’s laptop, and she couldn’t reset it.

    I suspect it had been changed but the pin could no longer be remembered.

    I’d put my email address as the recovery email in case they had problems getting into their account.

    The only problem was that I couldn’t get in it needed my old mobile number to send the authentication text.

    (God damn it!)

    So, I thought I’d get her to use a little hidden trick to get into the Windows 11 recovery mode.

    This is something anyone can try that could help you get your laptop back up and running, that works on Windows 10 and 11.
    The steps are as follows:

    Step 1: Hold and keep the shift key pressed down (on some laptops this will be a big key with an arrow on it).

    Step 2: On the screen where you put your password or pin in. Look at the bottom right-hand corner, there you’ll see the Icon for the power option. Click this and select the option to restart.
    Make sure to keep the shift key pressed down while doing this.

    Step 3: While the laptop restarts, make sure to still press down on the shift key.

    Step 4: When you get to a blue screen that says ‘Choose an option’. You can then take your finger off the shift key and select the option ‘Troubleshoot’ – reset your PC or see advanced options.

    Step 5: Select ‘Advanced options’ and then select ‘Keep my files’ if you want to have a backup of your files, or if not select ‘Remove everything’.

    Step 6: You can choose ‘Cloud download’. This will download Windows with the latest updates (requires a good internet connection) or ‘Local install’.

    This will then reinstall Windows.

    Then you can log on with your Microsoft account. Or choose the option to do this later and create an account that isn’t linked to your Microsoft one.

    Coming up with the above steps, I had to put myself in my granddaughter’s shoes, so to speak.

    (She’s not technical so I had to explain to her in a simple non-tech way what to do.)

    She had a problem that she didn’t know how to solve I had the solution, and I had to give it in a way she could understand.

    That’s the same thing with our marketing.

    We have to put ourselves into the shoes of the person we’re trying to help solve their problem.

    And to do that we need to understand as much about that person as possible.

  • What do you need for affiliate marketing?

    I came across a question today while I was browsing online.

    They asked, ‘What was needed to start affiliate marketing?’

    I guess the answer to this depends on how you intend to do affiliate marketing.

    The common answer to this is usually you’ll usually need:

    • Website
    • Domain
    • Domain Email Address
    • Autoresponder
    • Traffic (paid or free)
    • Tools (paid or free)

    If you intend on creating articles, then sending that traffic either to an opt-in page (which is the best option) or directly to the affiliate offer.

    Then you may want a website, but even then, you could use something like Medium to do this.

    Personally, I do have a website.

    Do I really need one?

    No, not really.

    Considering most autoresponders have a page builder that you can use to build an opt-in page and landing pages.

    I think you can start fine without needing a website.

    All you’d need is:

    1. Domain name
    2. Domain email (email address with @yourdomain name)
    3. Autoresponder
    4. Social media account(s) for free or paid traffic
    5. Tools to help create your lead magnet.

    Having a domain name and email address will help you look more professional.

    Also, tools like Systeme.io and other autoresponders have now restricted the use of personal emails such as Gmail and Yahoo.
    And are asking for a custom authenticated domain.

    Once you’ve got this all set up. You’ve then gotta start emailing your list.

  • 5-Step Method To Create Irresistible Lead Magnets

    Well, we are fast approaching the weekend already.

    If you want to create an irresistible lead magnet, then the following should help.

    I learned these steps from Rob Cornish, which I used when I created my first lead magnet and copy for the opt-in page.

    It’s a 5-step process for creating highly desirable lead magnets. That you can use to create products.

    What you want is a lead magnet that promises a “quick win”, that solves one problem and gives one result. And can be consumed within 3-10 minutes.

    Here are the steps below:

    1.   Hook – This is the title of the product. Having a catchy title for your lead magnet Is the most important. Think of this as the same as the headline of a sales page.

    You want your title to grab the attention of your potential subscriber.

    You can get some great ideas from looking at Amazon’s book titles. Search for a book in your niche and look at the best sellers.

    Note the book titles and subtitles. You can also click on ‘Read sample’ to view the chapter titles for ideas here as well.

    2.   Description – List the details of what you’re going to create. Example a 5-page PDF Cheatsheet.

    3.   Content Map – This is the outline of the content you going to put into the actual lead magnet.

    And any ideas you have for the content, either from what you know or what you’ve researched. You could also include notes and links to resources you’ve found that’ll help with the creation.

    4.   Benefits – You need to know what people want and what they don’t want. This requires digging into your market to uncover what prospects want and what they want to avoid.

    5.   Problems – You need to know the challenges, problems, frustrations and roadblocks (real or perceived). This you can find from other people’s sales pages, opt-in pages, etc. In your niche. These same pages can also help with identifying the main benefits.

    This will not only help you create desirable lead magnets but will also help you with the copy for the opt-in page.

    Some ideas for your lead magnet are:

    • Short PDF
    • Work Sheet
    • Swipe File
    • Checklist
    • Resource List
    • Template

    My first lead magnet I created was a resource list listing different (legit) ways to make money online, and it did quite well.

  • One book that changed John Carlton’s life

    If, like most people, you’ve made some new goals for this year.

    But…

    It’s not enough to want a goal or really really want it and envision it!

    Nope.

    You must break it down.

    For example: if you want to make a million dollars this year, there are quite a few ways to do this.

    1)   Make about $100,000 each month

    2)   You could make 3 big scores of about $333,000

    3)   You could start to build on what you make each month; you could make $10,000 in January and $50,000 in February, $350,000 in March and start building up.

    And as John says, if you don’t know how that process is going to happen you’re lost.

    And if you make this kind of goal in January, by March or April, you going to realize that you are nowhere near getting there because you don’t know what to do.

    You need to get a plan down.

    The main things that stop people from hitting their goals are…

    …they don’t know what to do first and they don’t know what to do next.

    There’s one book that John Carlton talks about and recommends in his training and that he says changed his life.

    You’ve no doubt heard about it and may have more than likely read it.

    It’s Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.

    And in chapter 2 it lists 6 steps that you need to take to achieve your goals.

    Napoleon Hill’s 6-Steps

    Step 1: Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire.

    Step 2: Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire.

    Step 3: Establish a definite date when you intend to have the money you desire.

    Step 4: Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.

    Step 5: Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you wish to have. The date you’ll have this by. State what you intend to give in return for the money and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.

    Step 6: Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once before retiring to bed, and once after arising in the morning. As you read – see feel and believe yourself already in possession of the money.

    So, if you aim to make a million dollars, then you’ll need to create a definite plan on how you are going to do this.

    Ask yourself “What are the intermediate things I’ll need to do to achieve this?”

    Then break this down into actionable steps.

    And if that plan fails, you can create another plan and keep doing that till you see success.

    Remember that action is as important as planning.

  • The 4Ps to persuasive writing

    Earlier today I was going back over some old course notes I had written.

    When I was reminded of a great formula for persuasive writing by Don Mahoney called:

    “The 4 P’s,”.

    Don said…

    “The hidden structure is the way you lead your prospect through the piece and build his interest in the product. Getting him so excited, he’s willing to take action.”

    This is not to be confused with the 4 P’s in marketing you may have heard of, which are Product, Price, Place, and Promotion.

    That one is a framework for creating products.

    Following are the 4 P’s for persuasive writing (a copywriting formula) you’ll be able to apply this to a product, service, emails, etc.

    The 4 P’s for Persuasive Writing:

    1.   Promise – Make a big, irresistible and unique promise to get attention.  The key to this is to make sure your promise speaks directly to the desires of your target market. Show them what the product will do for them the benefit.

    2.   Paint – Paint a pleasing picture in the prospect’s mind of them enjoying what’s been promised. Get them to visualize an outcome, using as many of the 5 senses as possible, taste, feel, touch, etc.

    3.   Proof – The secret of proof is to state the benefits first. It’s good to use bullets for this. We also need to back up with credibility from previous buyers. Show credible proof that what you’re saying is true thus making it impossible to refuse.

    4.   Push – Make a special offer. The Close with the Call To Action (CTA). Compel the prospect to ACT.

     What you have now is a powerful formula for writing persuasively…

    as the saying goes in one of the Spidey films (can’t remember which now). With great power comes great responsibility.

    When you think of influencers, you’d think of people on TikTok or Instagram – right?

    Well, one influencer lived long before the internet …

    In fact, in the 16th century.

    Her name was Queen Elizabeth I of England.

    In 1562 Queen Elizabeth I contracted smallpox…

    Which almost killed her.

    Although she survived the smallpox it had left her with terrible scars all over her body…

    With such a high profile, she needed to seem beautiful and regal to the masses.

    She started a trend to wear makeup to cover blemishes and other flaws on the face…

    … It was a concoction that consisted of lead and vinegar that created a white paste.

    What was known as “Venetian ceruse” a potential killer…

    (Seems kinda crazy eye?)

    That was regularly applied to her face. For a while, she only used it to conceal the scars on her face.

    But it didn’t take long for this to catch on…

    … and before you knew it more and more women began to copy her.

    Being so well recognized meant that many women started to use makeup just like Queen Elizabeth.

    That started a trend crossing the classes…

    And having a perfectly white face came to symbolize youth and wealth…

    What’s more, if the makeup didn’t kill you then most likely the facial cleanser used to remove the makeup probably would have.

    It consisted of rosewater, mercury, honey and eggshells…

    and to top it off Elizabeth used bright red pigments or lipstick that contained heavy metals…

    I know what you’re thinking!

    And no, not the rock band type, hahaha – the toxic or
    poisonous sorts at low concentrations.

    Can you imagine living in those times and a woman approaching you looking like Ronald McDonald? Lol.

    20 years till seen again?

    On April 8th there’s going to be a solar eclipse…

     Eclipse chasers from Fresno will be travelling to Texas to be in the path of totality – Where the moon completely blocks out the sun’s direct rays.

     Due to the moon’s shorter distance to Earth, the time of totality will be more than twice as long in Texas than in the 2017 western U.S total eclipse.

     And there won’t be another one in the U.S. for 20 years.

     Although eclipse chasers say that a…

     “Total solar eclipse is ‘nature’s most awe-inspiring phenomenon.’ Your life literally changes. You can feel the earth move beneath your feet.”

     This isn’t the main reason why they’re going…

     The main reason is that this will be the only opportunity for the onlookers to stare at the sun with their naked eyes without risking blindness.

    I expect there will be a lot of people heading that way to have what’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness this incredible event.

    Scientists at Northwestern University have developed tiny VR goggles for mice…

     (Yep, you read that right!)

    They are allowing researchers to get deeper insights into the workings of rodent brains.

    (This brings to mind a Tom & Jerry cartoon, where Jerry the mouse is lying on a couch with what looks like a crash helmet on his head immersed in a virtual world, lol.)

    In the past, scientists used computer screens to create a simulated environment for mice that had limitations.

    Creating a 2D reality that didn’t fill the whole field of vision…

    Neurobiological research has depended on VR for over a decade.

    Now with the creation of miniature goggles, the mice become fully immersed in a 3D VR scene.

    It is named Minatare Rodent Stereo Illumination VR (iMRSIV).

    The goggles aren’t goggles they’re two sets of lenses and screens one for each eye…

    Placed close to the mouse’s head whilst on a treadmill that provides a 180 visual field for each eye.

    Sounds pretty crazy, eh?
